Unified Strategic's Past Performance Highlights...

US Patent & Trade Office

United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO)

Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB)

The PTAB Pegasystem project developed a new Case Management System to support the USPTO PTAB in its role as an alternative forum to U.S. district courts for vetting the validity of issued U.S. patents and specifically handling two new types of USPTO patentability litigations. Unified Strategic was an integral member of the initial Pega engagement team that developed the Patent Review Process System (PRPS), which became available to the public in September 2012. During development, Unified Strategic team members developed the core of PRPS. Following PRPS development, Unified Strategic consultants assumed responsibilities on additional task orders for PRPS enhancements, operations, and maintenance.

Nurse Care/Case Manager Pegasystems Pilot Program

The project goal was to replace their paper-based manual system and enhance patient outcomes by providing a vehicle to manage and track large caseloads. The Unified Strategic team was able to identify and implement key technical enhancements that resulted in an improved business process and customer satisfaction.  In addition, the Unified Strategic team designed the Madigan Case Management application to enable the capture, analysis, and reporting of key metrics that translate into increased quality of life for patients in case management.  Program Management Office & Application/Software Engineering – For project management, we adopted an iterative development approach (Agile process – hybrid model that blends client’s current process with that of Pega SCRUM). Some of the Inception and Elaboration activities included Prep and Review, White Board and Review, or Real-time Capture Elaboration sessions, Elaboration Checkpoints, and enabling the business users to build draft flows and user interfaces for Elaboration sessions. Unified Strategic captured requirements, gathered and organized artifacts, held regular governance meetings and playback sessions with stakeholders to demonstrate the look and feel of the application to meet their needs and to maintain transparency.

Department of Marine Resource’s Licensing and Landings Application (DMR)

The State of Maine uses Pegasystems software for business process management (BPM) application solutions.  The Office of Information Technology (OIT) replaced the Department of Marine Resource’s Licensing and Landings application.  This project required development in Pega Rules Process Commander (PRPC) version 7.1.X and was based on the Pega Public Sector Certification & Licensing Framework (CLF).

New York City Department of Correction (NYC DOC)

Jail Management System

NYC DOC replaced its legacy Inmate Information System with an integrated Jail Management System (JMS).  Among may objectives, the system electronically captures and maintains the inmate’s legal record with a “case history” view so that needed information is readily available to authorized users in real time or near real time, and automate the workflow associated with key jail management processes (e.g., Intake, Housing, and Movement).

DOC utilized a COTS BPM tool as the software to develop this solution after working with a COTS Jail Management system which did not meet all of their customization needs. Our consultants helped achieve DOC's goals, to use BPM to implement the Jail Management System solution, adopting an Agile Scrum Methodology and Best Practices, along with development resources.

Municipal Automated Complaint System (MACS)

MACS BPM is replaced the client’s previous Automated Ticket System and Automated Complaint Systems (ATS/ACS), which ran on a CICS/DB2 legacy mainframe environment. Sliver one provided the ability to enter issued tickets (moving and parking), complaint entry processing, and forms controls, known today as the ticket/complaint books assigned to an Officer. In addition, the user can create PDF copies of summons, warrants, citizens and special complaints and/or print copies of the violations.

Our consultants assisted the client to adopt an iterative development approach (Agile process – hybrid model that blends client’s current process with that of Pega SCRUM). We also conducted the Inception and Elaboration activities include Prep and Review, White Board and Review, or Real-time Capture Elaboration sessions, Elaboration Checkpoints, enabling the business users to build draft flows and UI for Initial Elaboration sessions.

Claims Repair Framework

Blue Cross/Blue Shield, North Carolina utilized Unified Strategic to engage in several efforts to research, process, pend, and adjudicate claims. Utilizing a business rule engine (BRE) design, Unified Strategic helped configure the BPM platform to iterate through a file of claims to perform automated actions. Claims information in a file were retrieved from the claims adjudication system. Business rules were applied to those claims to determine the appropriate course of action (i.e., pend, adjudicate, or deny) for the claims.

With more than 250,000 claims to process daily, performance issues arose. The entire business rules engine process needed to be completed in ~3 hours before customer relations representatives signed into work. However, the business process at full capacity, under a full load of claims previously took ~5 hours to complete. Unified Strategic overcame this challenge by making the incoming services with the daily claim information multi-threaded, as well as by increasing the number of Java virtual machines (JVMs) on the 2 servers that ran the process in the production environment. Unified Strategic’s efforts lead to a ~50% reduction in time from ~5 hours to ~2.5 hours.

National Security Agency

United States National Security Agency (NSA)

Integrated Data Management (IDMS)

Our consultants led the National Security Agency (NSA) Integrated Database Management System (IDMS) Pegasystems Program, which allows multiple Enabling Organizations of the NSA Chief of Staff to create, manage, route, and report on cases involving contacts. The program’s goal is to provide collaboration between organizations involving related cases and individuals. The NSA and partner companies leverage Unified Strategic consultant’s PRPC and Pega 7 expertise and experience, to provide recommended approaches and Pega "best practices" with setting up the Pega environment, approaches in Agile software development management, and requirements elicitation for Pega based projects.

United States Department of Agriculture (USDA)

Pega PRPC/GIS Proof of Concept (POC)

Unified Strategic consultants helped to develop a PRPC/GIS proof of concept (POC) for integrating workflow processes with an integrated GIS solution for the Client Gateway PWS. Specifically, around the requirements for developing a PRPC-based solution within the USDA and NRCS environments. We used the CSP Pasture Cropland tool as a basis for demonstrable best practices implementing Organizations, Portal, Connectors, GIS in Pega. We successfully developed this Amazon EC2 Cloud, Pega 6.2SP2, ESRI ArcGIS API for the JavaScript-based solution in 1 week. This lead to initiating two PRPC-based solutions for the Payment Scheduling Application and Access Control Management System, both scheduled to be released this calendar year.

The USDA and our prime partners leveraged the experience of Unified Strategic’s Pega Architects, to provide recommended approaches and leverage Pega best practices with setting up the Pega environment, approaches in Agile software development management, and requirements elicitation for all subsequent Pega-based projects.

Electronic Complaint Disposition Reporting (eCDR)

eCDR is used by law enforcement officers and court personnel to enter summons, warrants, and citizen complaints. Process spans from entering a complaint and processing it at police stations all the way to judges in courts making a decision of arrest or bail set for more serious offenses. eCDR has just kicked off and is still in the requirements gathering stages. Our consultants provided NJC with highly motivated professionals who serve in many capacities which include Pegasystems PRPC project planning, implementation, and ongoing support.

Charles Schwab

Unified Strategic consultants provided IT/BPM expert services for various Charles Schwab projects:
  •  Advanced Case Engine (ACE)/ACE BIX
  •  PathFinder

This need was satisfied by a small support team called BPM Platform Support. As part of the BPM Platform Support group, Unified Strategic consultants supported three production environments as well as a host of non-production environments (over 100 web application servers). Also, responsible for new ‘federated’ environments, installed or reconfigured PegaRulesProcessCommander (PRPC) instances at least 25 times.
